Joshua Tree Adventure
The grass is greener.
The other day
Matt and I were at TJ Maxx shopping (we love TJ Maxx), and he found this
leather wallet that he really liked. He showed it to me and he was so freakin cute.
His eyes beaming at me like a child wanting a new toy. I wanted so badly to buy
it, but we are currently very broke, so I had to say no, and he wouldn’t have
asked because he knows what’s in the bank. Or should I say, what’s not in the
bank Haha.
It is so easy at times like these to look at other couples and feel less. Less successful, less beautiful, less happy, less in love. Whatever falsities you think about your position, it only leads to one destination. Depression. I like to think of life this way: If you are happy, content and enthusiastic about life without financial freedom, you will be happy, content and enthusiastic about life with financial freedom. You can plug in whatever thing you think your lacking here. For us, it is money. Next month, it might be clothes, perfect hair, a house…etc.
My solution to
all of this is a very simple piece of advice. Create before you Consume. I
heard this from a Jenna Kutcher Podcast and ever since then, I have tried
really hard to apply it to my daily thinking. When you are busy coming up with
ideas and goals, you have less desire to dwell on other couple’s situations.
Yesterday we
were watching Parks & Rec and it was the episode where Chris Traeger was
spiraling into depression because he had recently been dumped, and Anne refused
to get back together with him. Throughout the episode, he is trying to keep his
body busy in order to avoid thinking. We obviously don’t want to avoid our feelings,
but keeping ourselves busy is a great way to stay positive.
Create goals for
your business, for your relationship, and for yourself. Do this before doing
anything else. You will find yourself getting excited to try a new recipe, for
date night, for a new craft. You will be far too busy being happy and getting
in the zone to have time to think about the things you don’t have. Your grass is green where you water it, so start working and stop feeling like you are not good enough!
